Coast to Coast opening theme

"It's Friday!" with Liberace parody opening

Charlie Harper's piano background music for domestic drama

Song: "At The Room Store"

One of the biggest hits of all time in Arizona is "At the Room Store". I teach it to as many of my piano students as I can.

WKRP - Chord changes.. for short opening ditty for TV show

Let's figure out how to play the opening theme song for WKRP. I know I will. And I'll make a big deal out of it... somewhere... soon. Maybe Guitar Center, maybe Hard Rock Cafe... maybe a retirment center. There's big money in opening theme songs to TV shows. At least there used to be. I'll never forget Batman and Gilligan's Island. Todays Internet Age might have left me behind but I know there's music out there that's needed-- for Youtube videos or Google ads or who knows? My last big success (imaginary success) was the Donald Trump theme (see the last entry). In the meantime, listen to this intro to an episode of WKRP.

Here's Trump's motto put to music -- for fun-- after a month long Trump media binge.

Rick Potvin - Studio Piano / Keyboard Musician - for Hire via Guitar Center

Rick Potvin Of Arizona just finished a recording in a studio session for a Guitar Center client where the client's lead sheet music had no chords and tiny badly copied lyrics. He was able to listen to a CD recording of a overly arranged version of the song, install a simpler harmonic background, re-arrange the piano parts to the level needed for copyrighting of the song-- and sang the lyrics. Two versions were included for the client-- a straight piano version and his vocal version. The studio technical help at Guitar Center was great and the client was very happy with his results. He can't upload it because it's a legal issue at this point. Sometime in the future he'll possibly be able to post it here.

In any case, if you need a piano or keyboard studio musician to either play, sing, re-arrange, score or write music, Rick Potvin of Phoenix at Guitar Center on Peoria could be your solution. Contact him via his email at rick_potvin@yahoo.com.

Where is the sheet music, chord sheet or lead sheet?

These types of youtube lessons have become popular but what level of illiteracy is expected of the student? There is no reference to any chart, sheet or music! So we're left with 22 minutes of an absolutely stunningly idiotic presentation of how to play Ho Hey. Unbelievable. How does the internet and Youtube end up being abused like this? It's not possible for this type of subversion to occur is it? Wait... yes it is. Here it is...(stop the video and do something else when you get bored or overcome with frustration).

Time Stands Still ... 93.3

"Time Stand Still"

I turn my back to the wind
To catch my breath
Before I start off again.
Driven on without a moment to spend
To pass an evening with a drink and a friend

I let my skin get too thin
I'd like to pause
No matter what I pretend
Like some pilgrim
Who learns to transcend
Learns to live as if each step was the end

(Time stand still)
I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
(Time stand still)
See more of the people and the places that surround me now
Freeze this moment a little bit longer
Make each sensation a little bit stronger
Experience slips away
Experience slips away

I turn my face to the sun
Close my eyes
Let my defences down
All those wounds that I can't get unwound

I let my past go too fast
No time to pause
If I could slow it all down
Like some captain, whose ship runs aground
I can wait until the tide comes around

(Time stand still)
I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
(Time stand still)
See more of the people and the places that surround me now
Freeze this moment a little bit longer
Make each impression a little bit stronger
Freeze this motion a little bit longer
The innocence slips away
The innocence slips away...

Summer's going fast, nights growing colder
Children growing up, old friends growing older
Freeze this moment a little bit longer
Make each sensation a little bit stronger
Experience slips away
Experience slips away...
The innocence slips away

Let Her Go (Passenger) piano lesson preparation

The first step in playing / singing this-- is to hear it played by the composer or best known artist and then to listen to others play it on piano. Few actually do a piano/vocal. I haven't found any yet. This is a playlist of several versions I've listened to so far. I'll attempt my version soon. The song is okay as far as contemporary songs go that are being punched out these days. It's got some traditional elements to it that take me back to the 1970's folk singers like simon and garfunkel or jim croce for example.

Happy July 4 USA Independence Day: Let Freedom Ring

Dorothy and I watched the Macy's fireworks display and concert last night and were surprised to learn that we completely missed Barry Manilow's Let Freedom Ring in our own Independence Day concert. It's a great song and we'll be sure to add it to both the concert and our piano lesson planning. After Manilow's performance, I've added fireworks as seen by drones- something new in 2014... but I didn't notice it until just this morning. As well the playlist will include a few more versions of Let Freedom Ring on piano.

3-hr Show success at July 2 Potluck commentary / Happy 4th!

Dorothy and I just got back from a 3 hour retirement community potluck that I'll describe in more depth in coming days. This initial post-- which goes out to our subscribers-- is a placemarker for now. The reporting of events through video and the teaching components involve extra processing that I haven't done yet-- they're a completely separate effort than the actual conduct and "doing" of the thing. For students who subscribe, I think what we do is instructive. For any possible fans who are not students, I would urge you to wait 3 days. For now, here's the original playlist I used to research the songs we played suitable for American Independence Day itself.
