Over my piano sales, teaching and playing career since 1991, there have been a few songs that stood out as cross generational and universally known. One of has been "Imagine". Often while playing it at Golden Buddha 2007-2012 where people from all over the country and the world enjoyed our piano music during evening dining, there would always be someone singing out "you hoo... hoo...ooo"... at that critical part before the chorus. Here's the official video.
This blog has been mostly experimental since teaching online is still tricky but lately, I've been looking for better versions of these types of instructions. Try sitting through this as I did to see if it makes any sense to you. It's not real good but it's good enough and the instructor sings.. which is a good thing to do too.
I prefer to teach note reading and chords but the type of instruction above can stimulate your interest in playing the song any way you can. Of course, signing up for real lessons with me where I'll teach you the Major 7 and Major 9 chord involved. Before you do that, however, it's probaby better to at least become more familiar with the song by installing it on your mp3 player, smartphone, ipad or device and make it part of your regular listening routine. As well you can sing along with the following Kareoke version.
My piano version... thus far.
