"There will never be another you", a long time standard-- MUST have lyrics rewritten.

by Rick Potvin @56 years of age, unbelievably to him. How did that happen? What a weird experience-- getting "older".

Great standard tunes like "There Will Never Be Another You" have great memorable one-line choruses like that very sentence... 'there will never be another you' evokes uniqueness of a love interest. I can attest to that feeling. It's a really interesting thought.

However-- if you go through the lyrics of this tune completely, it's just awful. Let's look at them. I'll highlight with bold print the awful parts.

(Mack Gordon - Harry Warren)

There will be many other nights like this
And I'll be standing here with someone new
There'll be other songs to sing another fall another spring
But there will never be another you.

There'll be other lips that I may kiss
But they won't thrill me like yours used to do
Yes I may dream a million dreams but how can they come true

There'll be other songs to sing another fall another spring
But there will never be another you.

There'll be other lips that I may kiss
But they won't thrill me like yours used to do
Yes I may dream a million dreams but how can they come true
If there will never ever be another you...

End of quoted lyrics... my comment--: These lyrics are RIDICULOUS! Many times, I find myself attempting to sing a song that I like because of the chord changes or melody. And I'm shocked by the inanity of those lyrics-- We have a situation where the male singer acknowledges the lady is unique in a good way-- but then he turns on her, telling her he'll kiss others and that she's already HISTORY to him.. that he's moving on. What is this? This is terrible. And the song is upbeat... as if the lady is going to enjoy this? What kind of mind writes lyrics like this? I had to rewrite them to bring myself to even mouthe the words-- otherwise, it's just too awful... Here they are.

someone new  ONLY YOU
There'll be other songs to sing another fall another spring
But there will never be another you.

There
'll be  HAVE BEEN other lips that I may HAVE kissED
But they
won't DIDNT thrill me like yours used to SURELY do
Yes I may dream a million dreams but how can they come true

My comment-- So the changes there reflect what I think would be more interesting and acceptable lyrics. Here are several artists performing the song,... I'll add my own rendition at the end shortly..
