Sylvester the Jester Magic Show removed from this post due to problems.

Instead of Sylvester the Jester... we'll look at Lean on Me as a Youtube lesson. These types of Youtube lessons are not very useful. They attempt to deliver short cuts to playing the piano but they're fairly useless. Yet this Youtube got nearly half a million hits. I normally get 20 to 100 hits on a good video. Go figure. It's incredibly not understandable to me how so many people can be fooled into thinking that this is a good lesson.

24,000 views and 26 subscribers - no monetization but starting to think in that direction

I have no idea how these stats work on Youtube in reality-- all I see are some numbers and we're obviously in a very low relative range. Still, there are 26 subscribers and I would take this opportunity to thank them if they get this post-- although I think they get the Youtube post rather than the blog post here-- and I don't neccessarily link the blog. I'm getting 10-30 hits a post on this blog. I haven't bothered to track anything. I'm not highly motivated to increase my views-- but that might change. I think the feedback could possibly be useful even in today's increasingly collapsing world. My forte has been to get familiar with equipment, tools and processes-- but not neccessarily capitalize on them. Below you'll Youtube pitch me on monetizing my youtube channel. "Monetize" everything, these days, is the way to go I guess. I'll be thinking about it.

Country Roads - Rick & Dorothy Piano Keyboard Hour

We in the process of increasing our presence on the "possible entertainers lists" of Activity Directors at retirement residences around the Greater Phoenix area in Arizona USA. As we engage the process, we're on a new learning curve and we're developing insights into what makes for a good hour of performance and what the potential hazards are. This includes everything from having enough water to drink, to song selection, to meeting and greeting all kinds of retired people and maintaining a vehicle in working order that can carry our gear in 120 Degree Farenheit Heat on hazardous freeways all over Greater Phoenix. Here's a tribute to John Denver, the Country Boy-- who was killed while trying to fly his experimental airplane. Here's to John-- and experiments-- and experimental airplances.

Rick's Playlist Index in Alphabetical Order-- the best Order there is.

I think if we could put everything in the world in alphabetical order, things would be better.  Youtube really needs to consider an alphabetical function listing. Google does too for that matter. Encyclopedias and dictionaries use it but apparently it's obsolete as far as internet resources are concerned. That has created a disaster. Don't get me started.

Isochronic tones for memory? Maybe.

I don't know if these isochronic tone CD's really work as advertised. It seems like a long shot. And it's $24 a pop. I'm attempting to memorize more lyrics for upcoming performances at retirement centers. Everyone seems to think memorized songs (chords, melody and lyrics etc) look more "professional". Okay-- fine-- if I spent all my spare time memorizing silly lyrics to songs I suppose it's possible but it sure would be nice to create "artificial memory shortcuts". I've considered memory shortcuts for decades and have never found anything that works-- from memory training, to the Indian bacopa herb that the ancient bards used and now this binaural / isochronics tone stuff. But who knows. I'm likely willing to give a shot. Improve Memory Isochronic Tone

Father's Day Playlist

We'll be performing these tunes on piano/keyboard on Father's Day at Rio Del Vista.  I like to see the originals or covers done by big timers to get an idea of how to perform it ourselves on piano/keyboard. Dorothy made the selections on this one. If you can't hire a live performer, I canrecommend this playlist for father's day where father's are in their 70s and up. The tunes here are mostly from the mid-20th century 1940s to 1960s with a few in the later part as late as the 1970's and a few going back to the 1930s and 1920s. Pre-boomer era .

Foo Fighters - Everlong

Foo Fighters "Everlong" Sheet Music - Download & Print

Date: Monday, June 1, 2015, 6:35 AM

Thanks Rick. I'll see you on
the 26th. What is your web address? I linked a YouTube video
of the song Everlong by the Foo Fighters on piano. Can we
get the music for this song? I have to learn it one day 😊

 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iwWLpXuqAjk

Rick responded....

I get most printed music from musicnotes.com these days... here's Everlong..
http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0082928

You can print out the first page free and start "typing out" those "D's" in the left hand.
The trick there is timing. It's mostly a rhythmic piece I think. It's not too soon for you to
start working on it because you can take one measure at a time and use it as note reading
excercise, as finger motion exercise and drill and more.

I posted it to my website at http://www.pianolessonsetc.com/2015/06/foo-fighters-everlong.html
to study it further. Listening to the piano cover-- and then the original-- I think the piano cover you
pointed to isn't all too accurate.

Here's the original which is more instructive and USEFUL I think becausse the lyrics and melody stand out a LOT more than that piano version. A lot of this song is "overdone" in my view-- although the chords are  straight forward and the melody isn't too bad actually. Back off on the energy and it can be done as a pretty good one-man piano vocal song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crOZk88eCcg

I took a look to see what other piano people are doing with it and not a single person
just plays and sings it. They're either just playing it or hamming it up with multitracking.
I'll continue to find a good version of this that could be done, say, at Seasons52.
