Concert piano "talent" is a myth, says Rick Potvin.

There is no such thing as "talent". The "connectomes" in the brain determine the level of understanding, interpretation and performance of piano either at the concert level or at a crude and drunken brawl at a duelling piano bar. It's the same thing really. It's a  case of what one's potential brain and muscle coordination is, an ability to tie that into the auditory function, an understanding of chord changes and then tying that into sitting down and working at it. All the stuff about talent in the following video is thoroughly negated and exposed by the total absence of the discussion of chord changes. Any piece can be interpreted as long as harmonic progressions are understood.  Kids who claim to be virtuosos are coached to NEVER discuss the secret code of music-- which is in fact-- chord changes. Without chord changes (and there are a limited number of chords)... there is no "music". Music and piano music is overrated nonsense. ANYONE can learn to play piano, keyboard or organ by understanding basic principles. I've taught students who are retired seniors, working adults, teens and children. The ability to grasp the concept of the musical chord progression is the thing that "switches on" anyone's "music gene". Watch the following nonsense video anyway.
